Our shop in Geneva, Illinois, also is an art gallery featuring on any given day dozens of works by a wide variety of artists specializing in cat and dog themes. Most of the artwork is framed and it ranges from Victorian themes of children with puppies and kittens popularized in the late 19th Century to the Impressionist-style dog portraits of California’s Carol Ratafia. For the Framed Art section of our on-line catalog we’ve selected a sampling of our favorite pieces by Robin Betterley and Lowell Herrero. Betterley, a Maine artist also recognized for her work in miniatures, works in a variety of media and sometimes uses more than one in the same composition. The simply framed collage-style prints displayed here were both completed in the late 1990s. The works of Lowell Herrero are acclaimed for their artistry and for their humor. His career is marked by a quarter-century of sold-out one-man shows at fine art galleries from coast to coast and commissions by celebrities including Wolfgang Puck. Herrero’s first cat paintings were done in 1981 and the world has been enjoying them ever since. We think the ones shown here can be included among some of his best. |
